The Director of Communications will set and guide the strategy for all communications, website, social media, public relations messages, and collateral to consistently articulate the Notre Dame Sisters’ mission.  The Director of Communications will ensure that Notre Dame Sisters is viewed as the primary source, disseminator, and conduit of information within this diverse network and constituent base.

The Director of Communications will report to the Vice President Advancement for the Notre Dame Sisters and will work closely with the President and Leadership Team within the organization as the communications partner on a variety of strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the annual communications plan across all of the Notre Dame Sister’s audiences. This will be an integrated strategic communications plan to broaden awareness and strengthen the brand identity key stakeholders audiences.
  • Create a brand/marketing/public relations strategy that will allow the organization to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted high-level external audiences, including the media, public officials, and key influencers.
  • Identify challenges and emerging issues and work with the Vice President Advancement and the President and Leadership Team to recognize internal and external communications opportunities and solutions and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them.
  • Lead the generation of online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action. Decide who, where, and when to disseminate.
  • Put communications vehicles in place to create momentum and awareness.
  • Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to newsletters, brochures, annual report, fundraising invitations, website, and maintain all social media platforms.
  • Coordinate webpage maintenance-ensure that new and consistent information is posted regularly. Curate content and increase audience engagement on Notre Dame Sisters’ social media channels.
  • Manage all media contacts. Serve as lead point person on media interactions that help promote and/or impact the organization and actively cultivate and manage press relationships to ensure coverage of issues of strategic importance, as well as programs, special events, public announcements and other projects.
  • Help to develop Notre Dame Sisters branding and use appropriately to ensure the awareness of their mission. Be the lead team member working with advertising agency and development of all Notre Dame Sisters marketing.
  • Research grant programs and funding opportunities, and coordinates plans with Vice President of Advancement
  • Write and submit grant applications and proposals as outlined by the funding agencies and/or as guided by the funding agencies.
  • Collaborate with other nonprofit agencies that the Notre Dame Sisters include in their ministry.
  • Work with the Vice President of Development to create events and provide

all printed and electronic collateral as needed.

  • Exercise judgement to prioritize media opportunities, and prepare talking points, speeches, presentations, and other supporting material as needed.
  • Oversee social media accounts’ design for Notre Dame Sisters and their ministries.
  • Monitor social media accounts and offer constructive interaction with users.
  • Analyze the long-term needs of the Notre Dame Sisters and their ministries social media strategy.
  • Stay up to date with current technologies and trends in social media, design tools and applications.
  • Plan paid social media advertising strategies and budgets.
  • Collaborate with ministries to support their respective missions, ensuring consistency in voice and cultivating an engaged social media community.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience working social media and marketing platforms
  • Candidate must be a self-starter with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to plan and execute projects from conception to completion
  • Advanced computer skills, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Google, Design Software, and Canva
  • Strong Communication and Writing Skills
  • Customer service orientation is essential
  • Ability to produce and manage multiple requests at one time
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Understanding and familiarity of Notre Dame Sisters and ministries


  • Excellent oral, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and highly organized.
  • High level of professionalism and time management capacities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other design software.
  • Proficient in Canva
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others as a team, to multi-task and to be a self-starter.
  • Understanding and affinity of the Notre Dame Sisters and their ministries
