September 4, 2020: Sr. Mary Kay Meagher prayer for 2020 LABOR DAY~

Today we pray for workers persevering through adversity.

Keep healthcare workers and first responders safe. Refresh educators.

Reward essential workers for their true value. Guide those in need of work.

As Catholics what/why do we celebrate???

  • One of the 7 principals of catholic social justice teaching is the basic rights of workers must be respected–the right to productive work, to decent and fair wages, to the organization and joining of unions, to private property, and to economic initiative.
  • Pope Francis:We do not get dignity from power or money or culture. We get dignity from work.” “Work is fundamental to the dignity of the person”

Day after day, our essential workers work in harm’s way in order to keep our families and communities safe and healthy.

Labor Day is an annual moment to celebrate the victories of worker movements and a time for families to gather for parades and picnics, but this year Labor Day will have to be different due to Covid-19. We may not be together physically, but we have the unique opportunity to finally recognize so many working people who have been invisible for so long

This Labor Day weekend, the National Domestic Workers Alliance is teaming up with eight national partners for the Tribute to Essential Workers — an hour-long broadcast event celebrating Labor Day by paying tribute to the workers risking it all to keep us safe

WHEN: Sunday September 6th @ 8pm ET / 5pm PT
WHAT: The Tribute to Essential Workers
WHERE: Live streamed to your home.
