Sr. Janice Ludvik Celebrates 60 Years of Faithful Service as a Notre Dame Sister

For Immediate Release (May 26, 2026) Omaha, NE – The Notre Dame Sisters, Omaha Province, celebrate the 60th Jubilee of Sr. Janice Ludvik, ND, honoring a life of faith, ministry, and service to others.

Born on December 3, 1943, in David City, Nebraska, Sr. Janice is the daughter of Richard and Agnes Ludvik. She grew up in a close-knit family as one of eight children. Along with her siblings, she attended parochial school in Wahoo, where she was taught by the Notre Dame Sisters, an experience that would shape her future.

Sr. Janice’s call to religious life was shaped early through her experience as a student. She was taught by the Notre Dame Sisters for 13 years, from kindergarten through high school, and witnessed firsthand their dedication, spirituality, and genuine care for their students and families. Just as impactful was the way the Sisters lived in community with a sense of unity, shared purpose, and support for one another that left a lasting impression. Her own family background further nurtured this calling, as her family tree included women religious and ordained priests.

Over the course of her 60 years as a Notre Dame Sister, Sr. Janice has served in a wide range of ministries, each rooted in accompaniment and care for others. She began in the classroom as a teacher, later serving on the Notre Dame Sisters’ leadership team, and eventually moving into pastoral ministry where she found her deepest calling. Her work has included facilitating faith-sharing and scripture study groups, leading retreats, serving as an RCIA director and spiritual companion, and presiding at Word and Communion services. She has also been a consistent advocate for peace and justice, participating in prayer vigils, marches, and community efforts that reflect her commitment to Gospel values. Whether in parish settings, healthcare environments, or one-on-one encounters, Sr. Jan’s ministry has always centered on listening, presence, and walking with others through life’s most meaningful and challenging moments.

Reflecting on her years in ministry, Sr. Janice shares that she has seen God most clearly “in mutual encounters and conversations… and in the stories people share.”

What has sustained her throughout 60 years of religious life is her deep belief in God’s presence and the strength of community. She points to “personal relationships of friendship, communal and personal prayer, and finding joy even amid challenges” as sources of lasting support and meaning.

Looking back, Sr. Janice expresses gratitude for the many opportunities and places where she has been able to serve. And looking ahead, she finds hope in “faith-filled people and faith communities who trust in God and look beyond the present into the future.

As the Notre Dame Sisters celebrate this milestone, they give thanks for Sr. Janice’s life of faith, ministry, and dedication to others.
