Reflection for the Third Week of Advent, December 11, 2022

Isaiah 35:1-6a, 10

James 5:7-10

Matthew 11:2-11

Isaiah predicts the signs of God’s glory: blind see, lame walk, lepers cleansed, mute speak, and deaf hear.  And Jesus, in Matthew 11, reassures the disciples sent by John the Baptist, by quoting Isaiah, that HE is God’s presence among them.

How is God’s Presence shown today? How does Jesus reassure us?  In reading the newspaper or listening to daily news, there are reports of school children collecting boxes of cereal for hungry children.  Businesses providing meals for the homeless and/or the people of Ukraine.  Teachers purchasing supplies, using their own money, for students.  Parents making sacrifices to send their children to Catholic schools.  Clergy ministering to the dying, sometimes late at night.

The list of “signs of God’s presence” is endless.  What do/can YOU do to show God is here with us?  Who has been “God’s presence” to you?
