Celebrating 70 Years of Service – Sr. Patricia Posekany’s Jubilee

The Notre Dame Sisters announce the 70th Jubilee celebration of Sr. Patricia Posekany, a dedicated and compassionate member of the community whose life has been marked by service and devotion to the aging population.

Born on September 30, 1930, in Chelsea, IA, to John and Mayme (Kratoaska) Posekany, Sr. Pat, as she is affectionately known, has spent her life in committed service to God and others. She was inspired to join the sisterhood at an early age, with thoughts of becoming a Sister as early as 7th grade. By age 20, her calling became clear, leading her to join the Notre Dame Sisters.

Sr. Pat’s education journey began at Notre Dame Academy from 1944-1946, and she completed her high school education at Chelsea Public School. Her early years with the Notre Dame Sisters were filled with caregiving responsibilities, as she looked after boarders at Notre Dame Academy and St. Wenceslaus School in Wahoo, NE, a role that has fostered lasting relationships with many who still visit her today.

Her nurturing spirit led her to serve as housekeeper and cook at Notre Dame Academy and Mother House in Omaha, NE, St. Ludmila’s in Cedar Rapids, and St. Wenceslaus in Spillville, IA. Sr. Pat also enriched the spiritual lives of many by teaching religion weekly in Spillville, IA.

Sr. Pat’s ministry with the elderly began in 1974, when she served as a nurse aide at Florence Home and with the Western Medical Agency in Omaha. For 35 years, she devoted herself to the aging population, driven by a deep sense of calling to care for those often forgotten. “Sometimes I feel like they are forgotten, but they have special needs too, and there is such a need in this area,” Sr. Pat noted. Her work involved providing personal care, preparing meals and desserts, and offering friendship and companionship to many.

Reflecting on her journey, Sr. Pat expresses gratitude for the opportunity to serve so many people across her various ministries. She cherishes the special friendships formed along the way and thanks God for guiding her path of service.

The Notre Dame Sisters celebrate Sr. Patricia Posekany’s 70th Jubilee, honoring her dedication and the positive impact she has made in countless lives.
