Reflection for the 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time…July 14, 2024

by Phyllis Chandler, Notre Dame Associate

“Lord, let us see your kindness, and grant us your salvation.” Psalm 85:8

The Scripture readings for this Sunday are all closely related.  They invite us to listen to God’s call and respond by spreading the good news of salvation to those with whom we come in contact.

As we reflect on these readings, we realize that God calls EVERYONE to share his message.  Amos was a shepherd and “dresser of sycamores.”  St. Paul went from persecuting the early Christians to becoming one of the greatest evangelists of all time.  And the twelve disciples, many of whom were simple fishermen, were sent out to proclaim the Good News, as well as driving out demons and curing the sick.

Like these examples from Scripture, we too are called to bring God’s presence and the words of Jesus to others.  Perhaps we do it individually in our daily lives.  At other times, we may go out “two by two” to share the message of salvation with others.

In my personal life, I pray daily that I will bring Jesus’ message to others through my words and actions.  May we all continue to make others aware of this gift and bring them closer to God.
