Reflection for the 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time, October 13, 2024

by Dick Connealy, Notre Dame Associate

In today’s gospel Jesus said the rich young man was lacking in one thing.  He didn’t name it, but I think he was talking about poverty of spirit. The idea that what we have is enough.

The real question is do we own our possessions or do they own us? Do they keep us from being the kind of people we would like to be?

A good friend of mine when asked what he wants says “I want to want less”.   He realizes that our wants are never met and our needs always are.

Our job in this world is to live with the idea that God gives us everything we need and we need to use what we are given to help one another.
