Reflection for the Transfiguration of the Lord…August 6, 2023

Gospel Matthew 17:1-9

Imagine what Peter, James and John were thinking when Jesus transfigured before them with His face shining like the sun and His clothes white as light? To add to their shock, Moses and Elijah appeared and began talking with God.

Peter finally spoke up stating they were happy to be in the presence of Jesus, Moses and Elijah and he wanted to build three tents for them. At that time a bright cloud came over them and a voice stated “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.” The disciples were very afraid. Jesus came to them and told them to not be afraid of what they had seen but do not tell anyone about this experience until the Son of God has risen.

What a difficult thing to keep from telling other people! The Son of God is standing next to you, you saw two other people (who are now gone) and yet you are asked not to talk about it. With prayerful help, it can and will be done as Jesus requested.
